About the YRDSC

The YRDSC is a collaboration between industry, higher education, local government and the Ministry of Defence with the purpose of

Strengthening and developing a resilient UK defence industrial base through regional collaboration with Defence and Security stakeholders.

Encouraging innovation and regional growth.

Building sustainable partnerships across sectors.

Supporting SME engagement and open pathways for non-traditional suppliers.

Unlocking commercial opportunities and attracting investment.

Influencing national policy and investment decisions from a regional perspective.

The collaborative approach will stimulate greater sector knowledge, business and economic growth and productivity improvement across the whole of Yorkshire. Our Aim is to be recognised as a leading Defence and Security region in the UK through more joined up working between industry, higher education and government, providing an efficient and accessible route for industry to work in Defence & Security.

Objectives

Our objectives are to:

Enable collaboration between industry, academia, government and other partners, across the whole geographical region’s activity in all domains of Defence & Security

Facilitate the sharing of information and opportunities between government and individual organisations, including trade bodies, and the cross-fertilisation with non-traditional Defence & Security business

Provide a hub for Defence & Security to actively promote the regional interests and capability, influencing regional and national policy and attract investment opportunities

Establish routes for the increased commercialisation of innovation and R&D in the region

Support the development of a talent pipeline across the region, facilitating and enabling growth and job opportunities

Governance

Governance is provided by a Steering Board formed from representatives from Combined Authorities, Academic and Research Centres and Industry.
